Fort Kochi
A room you can walk into
aikyam space runs free community clubs — stitching, curiosity, reading and dance. Sessions are open to anyone from Fort Kochi, Mattancherry and nearby.
Open today · 2–6 PM
Sunday. Dance Club is running.
⭐ “Open every day, 2–6 PM · Sunday is Dance only.” After the 10 August rewrite the four clubs between them cover all seven days — Stitching, Curiosity and Reading run Monday to Saturday, Dance runs Saturday and Sunday. There is no day the room is shut, so “except Mondays” is not wrong about the day, it is a shape that no longer exists. ⭐ And “except” was hiding the two facts a neighbour actually needs: Saturday is the fullest day and Sunday is Dance only.

⛔ v1 got this wrong and it was the worst defect in the set. The
grid ran Mon 10 – Sun 16 while the page said today was Sunday 9 August — so “this week”
was next week, and a neighbour scrolling out of “Open today” met Mon 10:
Closed as the first row. The corroboration that it was an oversight rather than a
choice: _kit.css defined .week li[data-today] with a wash
highlight, and the markup used data-today zero times — the highlight
was written and unreachable.
Two changes, not one. The window now starts at today and rolls
forward seven days, and the heading says “The next seven days” rather than “This
week”, because a calendar week is not what a person deciding whether to walk over is
asking about — on a Saturday, “this week” is nearly over and useless. The first row is
labelled Today, not “Sun 9”, so it stays true without anyone editing it.
⛔⛔ These rows are hand-written and frozen, and in twenty-four hours they
rotted twice over — not once. First the dates went stale, exactly as predicted. Then
on 10 August the schedule itself was rewritten: the closed day moved from Monday to
Sunday, Science became Curiosity, and Reading gained times. Every row of this grid was
wrong in a different way from the one anybody was watching for.
⭐ That is the argument, and it is stronger than the version this note used to
make. A frozen grid does not only go stale as the calendar advances — it goes
stale when the underlying rule changes, and no amount of re-typing dates defends
against that. Only deriving the page from one stored schedule does. Correct today, wrong
tomorrow, and wrong in a way you did not anticipate. Fine in a drawing and it must not
survive into the build. A page that says “Today” from a build made three days ago is
worse than the diary, because the diary is at least honestly dated. The schedule is a
recurrence rule — now “Monday to Saturday” and “Saturday and Sunday” per club —
and dates are a projection of it that has to be computed when the page is read.
Full constraint, including how it layers so nothing false appears without JavaScript:
COMPONENTS.md § “the schedule is a RULE, not a list of dates”.
Coming up
Nothing one-off announced yet
The clubs above run every week without an announcement — you never need to check for those. This is where a one-off lands: a performance, a workshop, a visiting group. When something is set, it appears here with its date.
This section is empty on purpose and it is the deliverable.
Checked 9 Aug 2026: there is not one future-dated item anywhere on aikyam.space.
/tag/events/ — the page the nav labels “Activities” — holds only the three
monthly guide posts, newest dated 8 Aug. /event-status/ renders 28
characters. /jobs/ renders 6, and its heading says “Events”.
Tink Her Hack 3.0 is a past event and stays in the stories section below; it has
not been promoted here.
How this degrades, which is the real design question: a permanently
empty “Coming up” must not make the page read abandoned. It does not, because the copy
points at the thing that is always true — the weekly clubs need no announcement. The
emptiness is a statement about a kind of event, not about the space. ⛔ Do not
replace this with a hidden section: hiding it means a reader who wondered has no answer,
and the heading is what tells them the question was understood.
Latest from the clubs
Short notes from the sessions, written up as they happen.
-
Our little cat friends continue to make themselves at home. As a pet-friendly space we are looking at small ways to make it more welcoming for animals.

The team placed their cut-piece tote bags and duffle bags at Local Sustainable Living, to see how they are received. If demand grows they will make more.
-
Five new bag designs are in progress for an upcoming Onam event by Local Sustainable Living, in handloom fabric and cut pieces.
All three entries are real, verbatim-ish, and dated, taken from
the August 2026 monthly post — the writing already happens daily, it is just buried in a
12,854px scroll. That is why this strip costs no new discipline.
Two things a reviewer should push on.
(1) All three rows are the Stitching Lab. That is not a design choice — of the
nine days written up so far, Stitching is the only club with substantive entries;
Curiosity (written up then as Science) has none and Dance has one (2 Aug, with Thudippu).
⛔ No filler row was added to
balance it. If that imbalance is wrong, it is a writing problem this component makes
visible rather than hides.
(2) How it degrades: every row carries its own date, so the strip ages in public.
Past roughly a fortnight the heading should change from “Latest from the clubs” to
“Last written up on 7 August” — the date is promoted to the headline and the word
“latest” is dropped, so a quiet fortnight reads as a fact rather than as a broken feed.
⛔ Never pad to three rows.
Who works here
Ten organisations and researchers use aikyam space as their base — five from outside aikyam, and five of aikyam's own initiatives. Some of them also run a club.
⛔ That first clause used to be in the lede, and it cost the
neighbour their first screen. Adding “— and gives room to the organisations working
alongside them” grew the opening paragraph to 178px and pushed the today-note down 59px,
so at 360×640 “Sunday 9 August. Stitching, Science and Dance are all running” — the line
that says which clubs — was cut mid-sentence. “Open today” still landed, so the
page half-worked, which is the dangerous kind of regression.
⭐ The clause is organisation-facing and it was being paid for out of the
neighbour's first screen. The partner layer earns its own section; it does not get
to tax the lede. Moved here, where a reader who has scrolled this far is asking exactly
this question.
⚠️ The fold budget is real and thin: header + nav is 174px, 27% of a 640px
screen, with the nav wrapping to two rows. One more line of intro copy pushes the
note off again. Chrome height is the lever if more is ever needed above the fold — a
deliberate change, not something to absorb by trimming words twice.

⛔ OVERTURNED 10 Aug 2026, and my premise was factually wrong.
An earlier version showed 5 of the 10 residents and cut aikyam fellows, jobs,
school, PATTIC and OASIS, on the grounds that listing your own projects among your
residents inflates the partner count. The owner's ruling: “my own five initiatives can
be moved to the co-impact section. we also work from there.” They genuinely occupy
the space, so they were never padding and the live page's count of ten is accurate.
⭐ But the worry was real and only the remedy was wrong — so this distinguishes
instead of excluding. Two labelled groups, and the intro states both numbers, so a
reader gets the true total and cannot mistake five in-house initiatives for five
independent partners. Excluding hid a fact; labelling keeps it and removes the wrong
inference. The heading “Who works here” is now more accurate than it was, not less.
The two sets still really are two sets. “Works from the space” and “runs a
club” overlap in exactly one place — Olimalar Foundation. Facilitators are people,
not organisations, so they stay in the club cards where they belong.
✅ RESOLVED 10 Aug 2026, and the disagreement was the useful part.
/clubs/ credited Aparna N as a “Tiny Entrepreneur” while /team/
listed only Haseena, Nasini Asharaf and Mary Gracy. Two pages disagreed and the owner
settled it: /clubs/ is wrong — she is the writer and a team member.
The label is gone from the clubs kit. ⛔ Still open and not guessed at: whether she
facilitates the Dance Club, and whether “Aparna N” and the “Aparna R” byline are one
person. That credit is left exactly as /clubs/ has it.
The clubs
All free. All in Malayalam. Limited seats, with preference for low-income and under-served households from Fort Kochi, Mattancherry and nearby areas.
⛔ “The three clubs” — the number was wrong, and writing it into a
heading was the mistake. Owner, 10 Aug 2026: Reading Club and Curiosity Club are real
and active; /clubs/ lists three and is incomplete. “Three” had been baked
into a heading, a lede and an intro, so a content fact became a design constant.
The section now holds any number, and the two clubs whose times are unpublished
appear on the clubs page as rows with the unknown named, not as omissions.
⛔ Never write a count into a heading.

⛔ Every “Just turn up” was removed and the absence is deliberate.
The rewritten live page says nothing about turning up versus writing first, for any club.
Every value we held was inferred — and the two clubs previously marked “write to us
first” were marked so because their times were unknown. Those times are now
published, so re-deriving the answer would reason from a premise that no longer exists.
Recorded as dropin:?; the page says nothing rather than guessing.
⛔ Aparna NS is left exactly as the live page has it — /team/
was edited three minutes later and disagrees. Recording a published claim is not
endorsing it.
Teaching something else?
Cooking, carpentry, robotics — if you can teach it, come and see the space. We are looking for people who want to work with us over time, not for one session.
